CONTRIBUTEVolunteering

We are looking for volunteers with a variety of specialisms, committed and qualified, available to serve the structures of the Custody of the Holy Land (Sanctuaries, Parishes, Schools, etc). The services required may be grouped together, broadly speaking, in the following areas of activity: education, emergency welfare, management of development projects, administration, secretarial, odd-jobbing, security, and cleaning.

The particular nature of the context in which we are operating means that only a few offers can be taken into consideration in relation to the needs that may arise. The complexity of the issues involved and the characteristics of the services that need to be offered do not allow for the use of casual labour. Volunteering cannot be undertaken as a nine-to-five job but represents an opportunity, within the strictness of fulfilment of the daily service required, to have an experience of prayer and to deepen the individual’s own journey of faith.

There needs to be a capacity to understand the diversity of faiths, cultures and traditions and to adapt to the particular context in which we are working.

Knowledge of languages

  • English and/or Italian are mandatory – a knowledge of Arabic, Hebrew, Spanish, German, or French would constitute an enhancement for an application.
    Duration

The standard length of service is 3 months. A readiness to serve for longer is valued, and would be confirmed after the completion of the first two months of service.

Conditions

  • Readiness to work fulltime
  • Unpaid labour
  • Travel and insurance costs to be paid by the volunteer
  • Food and lodging are provided by the Custody
  • Leave of absence and days off by agreement with the volunteer’s superior

How to apply

  • curriculum in the European format
  • brief letter setting out reasons for the application
  • two letters of recommendation, one from the relevant ecclesial authority (parish priest, bishop, religious superior)

Applications which do not correspond to specific vacancies will not be considered. Only those selected for the available position will be contacted.

Send documentation to infoats@custodia.org
